The Hungarian State Circus has been located in the City Park of Budapest since 1971, and it makes its way through on the tourist scene of Budapest both by its performances and by its historical background.
The current State Circus has a fine administrative relationship with the so-called Magyar Cirkusz es Variete Company (MACIVA), but the institution of the Hungarian circus proper dates back to the late 19th century, in 1891. The impressive stone building where the circus performances are organized (the only circus stone building in Central Europe) can accommodate more than 1800 spectators.
