Also known as the Railway History Park, the Hungarian Railway Museum fills a surface of more than 70,000 square meters. It was opened in 1999, as a result of the conjoint efforts of the Hungarian State Railways and of the Ministry of Transport.
The Hungarian Railway Museum exhibits more than 100 vehicles. They are meant to piece out the history of the railway transport since the second half of the 19th century until now. However, visitors are not constrained to confine to sightseeing exclusively. On the contrary, the highly interactive side of this museum is it allows visitors to get in the vehicles and even drive them.
On top of that, given the working condition of the vehicles, the company which manages the museum (MAV Nosztalgia) organizes trips by the lovely vintage trains throughout Hungary and even outside the Hungarian borders.
